About Dementia Sucks

A little bit about me and how I got here.

Hi, I'm Jackie! On my list of things to accomplish I thought I would be a TV network executive.

Then when I left TV and went into nonprofit I thought, I love comms and I'll be a comms executive.

Never, ever, did I think I would be adding CAREGIVER to my list of roles in my life. Not the way I thought.

I'm here, sharing, because the journey to getting a diagnosis for my mom was rocky. It was heartbreaking, anger-filled, hurtful, sad. Then once we had an official diagnosis of dementia, my and my sister's worlds broke even more. There was no play book. There is no perfect playbook because every diagnosis is different. Every person is different. Every path is different.

However, we can help each other out. Every experience shared can be a takeaway for you, or a friend, or a co-worker on the dementia journey with their loved one. So I hope by me sharing my and my sister's and mom's experiences, it may help you in some way. If you laugh at something - even better.

ABOUT ME

After fifteen years in television, then a recovering producer who moved into nonprofit fundraising and communications, now I'm figuring out how to combine my professional experience with personal passions. I obtained my RCFE certification to learn more about the administrative side of memory care, and am currently hoping to obtain my practitioners certification for Montessori for Dementia and Aging.
